    Default webley premier problems

my old webley has stopped working, i pull the barrel up to cock it and the trigger sears fail to engage, i was wondering is there any thing i can do to resurrect the old lass as i am a bit nostalgic when it comes to these things

    much thanks

    hawk eyes

it's unusual for a sear to fail on these guns, more likely that the 'hump' (for want of a better word) has worn down and limited the travel when pulling on the barrel.

if you look at the front of the cylinder where the cocking link is, as you pull the barrel, it slides over the 'hump' without this hump the stroke isn't long enough for the piston to engage the sear...
my nickel plated premier had the same problem and the original owner got fed up with buying sears that 'wouldn't work'
that was my good fortune though as he let me have it for 8
a spot of weld on top of the worn groove and then a bit of dressing with a dremel and the pistol was A1 again

you can see the hump just behind where the calibre is stamped (22)

cheers, i'll take a look at it, it was a progressive problem, first it took a rather sharp tug to engage the sears then it kept fireing as soon as i closed the barrel, then it stopped working all together

    Hi Oliver

When you come to dress the weld, you'll have to use a small grinder of some sort or emery cloth glued to a lath..
you won't be able to file it as the weld will pick up the carbon content from the parent metal (will be harder than the file so the file will skate across it)

    good luck with it Olly

to take the barrel off will i have to tap out one of the pins in the lever that pulls the piston?

    Hello Hol

    (sorry 'bout the Olly thing)

you don't have to knock out the linkage pins, from memory (it's been a long time!), you have to remove the screw that is the pivot for the barrel, the endpiece is threaded so the innards won't fly out..
the cocking shoe can be simply pushed along the slot in the cylinder towards the rounded end and pulled out of the hole
